An Empirical Analysis of the Professional Competency Elements of Librarians in China

Abstract

[Purpose/significance] This paper establishes the professional competency elements of librarians in order to provide references for the evaluation of the professional competencies of librarians in China. [Method/process] On the basis of summing up the professional competency elements of librarians in China, this paper carried on the empirical analysis through the questionnaire survey data, and determinedthe professional competency elements of librarians in China. [Result/conclusion] The professional competencies of librarians in China are composed of 13 first-level elements and 114 second-level elements, which form the evaluation index system of professional competencies of librarians. The first-level elements include professional quality, organizational management ability, self-management ability, information service ability, customer service ability, collection management ability, knowledge management ability, learning ability, information technology ability, cooperation ability, teaching and training ability, academic communication ability and property management ability.
