Research and Development of Citation Analysis Based on Metaphorical Thinking

Abstract

[Purpose/significance] This paper mainly focuses on recent research advances and the future development of citation analysis.[Method/process] Firstly, taking two examples-"sleeping beauties in science" and new indicators for the academic journal evaluation such as Eigenfactor (EF) and Scimago Journal Rank (SJR), the paper discussed some progresses of citation analysis from the perspective of metaphorical thinking. Secondly, through the investigation on the ecological literature by searching Web of Science (WoS), the ecology of citation, a new research front for citation analysis, was proposed by mainly using metaphorical thinking. Finally, some topics about the ecology of citation were listed.[Result/conclusion] Metaphorical thinking is a valuable way for the academic research and the creation of methodology. The ecology of citation also plays a very important role in the future citation analysis both theoretically and practically.
