[Purpose/significance] With the times developing, library publishing service has become indispensable. Studying the special collection-based publishing practice of university library in America, helps to promote the better service for library publishing in native. [Method/process] It takes University of California Berkeley Library, University of Michigan Library, Marriott Library-The University of Utah, Kansas State University Library, Purdue University Library, and University of Arizona Library as samples to introduce their special collection-based publishing service, and analyzes publishing characteristics:promoting academic exchange, cooperating with other departments and supporting open access. [Result/conclusion] Enlightenment on the special collection-based publishing service of university library in our country:clearing publishing key, selecting appropriate publishing form, strengthening the multilateral cooperation, setting up institutional repository, enhancing the consciousness of open access.
