[Purpose/significance]The purpose of studying the Open Discovery Initiative (ODI):Promoting Transparency in Discovery released by National Information Standards Organization (NISO) is to promote the in-depth understanding and extensive implementation of ODI in libraries in China, to enhance the development of current generation discovery service based on centrally index and improve the standardization of digital resource in China.[Method/process]The paper mainly introduces the initiation, development, key content and characteristics of ODI, specially highlights the recommended practices and discusses its implementation status. Further, the paper discusses the current implementation status and the future development of ODI.[Result/conclusion]DOI aims to promote transparency in discovery and facilitate progress through exploration of metadata elements, disclosure, fair linking, technical formats, and usage statistics, etc. More and more content providers and discovery service providers have gradually accepted and complied with ODI. That isbenefit to the improvement of discovery service and standardization of digital resource.
