Abstract

[Purpose/significance] The paper reviews the European Conference on Information Literacy (ECIL) in the past five years, providing references for domestic scholars to understand the present situation and future trends of global information literacy. [Method/process] According to the author's experience of attending ECIL and conference materials & papers, the paper summarizes the conferences from the five aspects:the conference overview, the distribution of participating countries, the topics of the conference and the research hotspot, the various conference activities and the participating of Chinese scholars, to help domestic scholars understand the latest progress and the future development for information literacy. [Result/conclusion] The ECIL platform reflects the trend of global information literacy to some extent:focusing on the practical application, expanding the research field of information literacy education, extending more related concepts, enriching more target users and innovating new teaching process and means. The enthusiasm of Chinese scholars to participate in ECIL has been continuously improved. From the first two sessions, only scholars from Taiwan participated, but in 2017, scholars and postgraduates from mainland China participated in the ECIL in various ways. Scholars in related fields in the world have fully demonstrated the latest achievements and contributions made by Chinese universities and research institutes in the field of information literacy. Finally, it is recommended that the Chinese information literacy community draw on the advanced experience of ECIL in both content and form.
