Design of the Embedded Navigation Service System in University Libraries Based on AR Technology

Abstract

[Purpose/significance] The library navigation system of augmented reality based on the AR technology was developed to display the 3D effect guide on the mobile terminal, thus help the users to master the library collection space and resource layout. To meet the increasing demand for University Library's guidance work, the system has the characteristics of three-dimensional positioning, highly interactive, virtual and real combination.[Method/process] According to the overview of navigational forms such as field guides, map navigation, video navigation, dynamic map navigation, and panoramic video navigation, installation programs were developed and embedded in Android system for mobile phones by use of Android, Vuforia SDK, Untiy3D, 3ds Max and other software.[Result/conclusion] The augmented reality guidance service system takes the layout of the buildings and collections of the Library in the South Campus of GDUFS as an example. The system has shortened the distance between the real world and the virtual world, expanded the information display space of the real world, and realized the functions of the library spatial layout guide, resource introduction, bibliographic retrieval and so on without geographical restriction. The system is well reflected in the readers' trial.
