Abstract

[Purpose/significance] Based on theories of the Five-Factor Model of personality traits and goal orientations, using learning orientation and performance orientation as intermediaries, this study constructs the model of the effect of university teachers' personality traits difference on knowledge sharing. The study explains the effects of personality traits difference on knowledge sharing from the views of personality traits and goal orientations. The study contributes to universities stimulating teachers' knowledge sharing behavior of scientific research in a better way.[Method/process] The paper analyzed questionnaires from 202 university teachers using hierarchical regression analysis (HRA) and Bootstrap method.[Result/conclusion] The result indicates that:conscientiousness and agreeableness are positive associated with teachers' knowledge sharing behavior, and conscientiousness has the strongest effect whereas the effect of openness is not obvious; the relationship between personality traits and knowledge sharing is partially mediated by learning orientation and performance orientation; the mediating role of learning orientation is stronger than performance orientation, which reflects that motivation of teachers to share knowledge is stronger.
