The Evolution of Australian School Library Standards and Its Enlightenment

Abstract

[Purpose/significance] Inspecting the evolution of Australian primary and secondary school library standards, with a view to provide reference and enlightenment for the development and construction of library standards in primary and secondary schools in China.[Method/process] Using literature analysis and text analysis to conduct research, Australia has been exploring the issue of library standards for primary and secondary schools since the 1960s. To date, there have been "1979 standards" "1993 standards" "2001 standards" and "2005 standards" four national standards. The development and implementation of standards reflect the development history of Australia's primary and secondary school library standards.[Result/conclusion] After analyzing the evolutionary background and standard of the four national standards of Australian primary and middle school libraries, especially in the four aspects including the standard historical role, standard focus, concept highlighting and standard implementation, this paper draws three enlightenments:focus on the standards of China's primary and secondary school library Build internal problems; multi-stakeholders playing a synergistic role in the functioning of primary and secondary school libraries; establishing standards for librarians in China's primary and secondary schools.
