[Purpose/significance] Participating institutions' research information management is a potential service model of libraries. This paper combs the relevant connotation and extension of research information management, analyzes the relevant theories that library participates in research information management, and aims to provide reference for libraries participating institutions' research information management.[Method/process] By the methods of literature research, comparative analysis and typical case analysis, this paper analyzed the significance and application of research information management, and analyzed the advantages of library participation in research information management and its significance to library, interpreted the role of libraries in research information management, took some foreign libraries as an example and introduced the practice of research information management in their institutions.[Result/conclusion] The construction of institutional research information management system needs to efficiently integrate research information distributed in different departments and systems within and outside research institutions, it is a systematic project that requires cross-departmental cooperation. When participating in the construction of research information management systems of participating institutions, domestic university libraries should make use of their own information management expertise to convey the essence and concept of research information management to various stakeholders, and build a diversified data application and service system based on research information management system.
