An Empirical Study on Health Information Needs of Elderly Users in Online Health Communities

Abstract

[Purpose/significance] The aging of population has a profound impact on society,economy and culture.A large number of elderly users have an increasing information needs on old-age care,medical care and social services.At present,the elderly users are not satisfied in the process of using health information,and the research on the health information needs of elderly users needs to be strengthened.[Method/process] This study relies on the online health community to carry out exploratory research using a mixed method of first qualitative and then quantitative methods.Firstly,this study obtained 37 free nodes of health information needs of elderly users by interview, then extracted 6 tree nodes of health information needs through questionnaire investigation,including usage and operation,information search,privacy and security,diagnosis and treatment behavior,interaction and feedback,self-actualization, and it is further divided into three main categories:physics,cognition and emotion, so as to build a health information need model for elderly users.[Result/conclusion] Finally, combined Maslow's hierarchy of needs to construct the health information needs model and put forward corresponding strategies and suggestions.
