Abstract

[Purpose/significance] Based on the analysis of the status of the research in long-term preservation of digital games in abroad, this paper aims to provide development proposals for the digital game preservation in China.[Method/process] This paper conducted literature research through multiple channels, and analyzed these literature from the perspective of research topics, including the content of digital game preservation, the legal issues about digital game preservation, the technology and the attitude from all walks of life towards the preservation of digital games.[Result/conclusion] There are four characteristics of the research of digital game preservation in abroad:the research subjects cover a wide range, but the number of researchers is small; most of the technical research are in the form of projects, most of which are funded by research institutes; methods are diverse; the degree of research among the subjects is not balanced, and the research of digital game preservation has not formed a complete system. The three enlightenments to the development of digital game preservation in China are:investigate the status quo of digital game preservation in China; strengthen theoretical research and take an active part in cooperation.
