[Purpose/significance] This paper studies the theoretical explorations and practices of overseas libraries in the field of exhibition. The analyses in this paper provide references for the broadening and innovation of exhibition services for libraries in China.[Method/process] By applying bibliometric analysis, the author first conducted cluster analysis of the main subjects and keywords of the literature in library's exhibition worldwide to search for major areas and problems of research. The author then selected 10 typical foreign libraries through online research as the subjects of desk study. Based on cases of offline exhibitions held by these libraries during recent years, regular patterns and trends of the theme, organization, aimed audiences and promotion were concluded.[Result/conclusion] By comparisons, the author states that libraries in China should pay more attention to the expansion of exhibition services and development of theoretical system. Library's innovative practices based on its own situation should be encouraged. To achieve the comprehensive multiplication of the impact of exhibition, its functions and positioning must be explicit, and its spiritual and cultural intension must be deepened. Traditional services of libraries have reached the bottleneck of development, meanwhile, exhibition presents a new capability of social service in the field of knowledge dispersion to make a breakthrough.
