Abstract

[Purpose/significance] The open scientific environment puts higher demands on the transparency, rigor and openness of scientific research. In this context, the Registered Reports on emerging publications, which aims to meet the demands, are rising and further promoting the development and evolution of open science. This paper intends to comprehensively introduce the background and development process of the Registered Reports and try to research its main function and core value in promoting the development of open science. [Method/process] Comprehensively used the network research method and content analysis method, the background of the Registered Reports, the development status, content composition, publishing process, main functions and core values were applied to systematically sort out the development of this emerging publication. [Result/conclusion] The outstanding characteristics of the Registered Reports are mainly reflected in 2 aspects:①in terms of content composition, Registered Reports not only includes the final research results, but also requires researchers to elaborate the research plan;②in terms of publishing process, most journals adopt the two-stage publishing form of submitting research plans and research results before and after collecting experimental data. Therefore, it is conducive to reduce the occurrence of publication bias, standardize and innovate the publishing process, and further improve the transparency, reliability and rigor of research results.
