[Purpose/significance] To provide an important reference for the optimization of subject journal collection and to promote the university subjects construction, this paper develops a unified quantitative method for the priority the subject journal collection guarantee in university libraries. And based on this method, it carries out a refined evaluation on the guarantee of subject journal collection in university library. [Method/process] Starting from the user’s resource utilization behavior and needs in the academic research process, this paper made a thorough and systematical combing to the target set of the subjects journals construction. According to the quantitative description of subject journals’ need relevance and importance, it put forward the priority measurement model of subject journal guarantee. Then the model was applied to empirical analysis of journal collection evaluation of ESI biology and biochemistry in University of Electronic Science and Technology. [Result/conclusion] According to the model, this paper not only achieves the quantitative ranking for each journal’s guarantee priority in a subject target collection set, but also further quantifies the support degree of each full-text database for the subject journal, which provides new ideas for the evaluation of subject journal in university libraries.
