Abstract

[Purpose/significance] This paper introduces the frameworks and core elements of National School Library Standards of the United States, which provides reference and inspiration for the current standard formulation of school libraries in China.[Method/process] Through the analysis of the National School Library Standards of the United States, this paper summed up the content structures and characteristic ideas of the standard, and summarized the enlightenment to the future standard formulation of school libraries in China.[Result/conclusion] The standards integrate 3 sets of independent standards (learners, school librarians, school libraries) into an integrated framework through 6 shared foundations (inquire, include, collaborate, curate, explore, engage) and 4 learning domains (think, create, share, grow). Under the effect of integration, the core competencies covered by the learning domains corresponding to the shared foundations in each individual standard are respectively set. The content structures of the standard are consistent, the characteristics ideas are clear, and the supporting implementation measures are exhaustive, which can provide reference and inspiration for the future standard formulation of school libraries in China.
