Abstract

[Purpose/significance] This study aims to explore the change of information needs of college students, the importance of different information needs, and the extent their information needs are satisfied under the circumstances of public health emergencies (PHE). The study further identifies features of information satisfied at high and low level.[Method/process] Through preliminary investigation, this study identified the types of college students' information needs in the context of PHE, including disease-related, self-related, social related and school related information. Totally 556 valid questionnaires were collected.[Result/conclusion] The results indicate that under the PHE, college students need different types of information, including disease prevention, treatment and development, government actions, and the impact of events on learning and life. The information students are highly satisfied has some salient characteristics, such as quantification, clear expression, authoritative information source, and audio-visual information source; the information not satisfied is usually uncertain, complex, unclear, and lack of authority information source. The results can help provide more accurate information for college students in the context of PHE. It can also inform the government in the management and release of PHE-related information, for better meeting the information needs of college students.
