[Purpose/significance] Based on the comparative analysis of the theory and practice of online information literacy education (OILI) in Chinese and American university libraries, this paper discusses the related issues of OILI in China.[Method/process] By means of literature research, website research and other methods, the paper tried to understand and analyze the differences of OILI between China and the USA.[Result/conclusion] The main contents of OILI of Sino-America university libraries are relatively consistent, but there is room for improvement in the treatment of some contents in China. University Libraries in China and the United States adopt various forms of OILI, but the differences are obvious. After a comparative analysis of various forms, it is considered that online tutorial is one of the effective forms of OILI. The paper proposes the suggestion as follows:Being both realistic and exquisite are important for the development of OILI. It is necessary to advocate online tutorials for the completion of contents and diversity in forms. It is also needed to pay attention to the cultivation of high-level skills, and thus promote the integration of information, research and scholarship.
