[Purpose/significance] With the further implementation of the national intellectual property strategy, the colleges and universities in China actively develop intellectual property information services. Japan is the first country in Asia to successfully implement the strategy of strengthening the country with intellectual property rights. It has established a sound intellectual property information service system in universities and carried out the whole-process intellectual property information service centering on the life cycle of scientific research results. Researching and analyzing the practical characteristics of intellectual property information services in Japanese universities has important practical significance for improving the level of intellectual property information services in Chinese universities.[Method/process] Six Japanese Designated National Universities were selected as the research objects, and their characteristics of intellectual property information service system, content and mode were analyzed and studied by means of literature review and website visit.[Result/conclusion] Referring to the characteristics of intellectual property information service in Japanese universities, this paper puts forward our country university intellectual property information service center to carry out the whole process of intellectual property information service, attach great importance to the patent application before the value assessment, promote the co-construction and sharing of intellectual property data and tools, innovation production officer joint service mode, build a high level service personnel through mutual exchanges.
