Abstract

[Purpose/significance] This paper reviews the exploration process of library information resources sharing t after Farmington Plan, analyzes the deep value significance of cooperative collection and collective collection, and determines the anchor point for the research and practice of library information resources development in China in the new era. [Method/process] The study reviewed the two "milestones" in the process of library information sharing since the 1940s:cooperative collection and collective collection, revealed the value significance behind them, and analyzed how these value promote cooperative collection to collective collection. [Result/conclusion] The study found that, the Farmington Plan laid the foundation for the development of early cooperative collection from three aspects:goal orientation, connotation setting and realization approach; in the 1970s and 1990s, the exploration of cooperative collection experienced the reflection of "highly altruistic" and "synergism cooperative collection", and completed the transformation of "respecting members' interests" and "complementary cooperative collection". At the beginning of the 21st century, under the goal guidance of data-driven and highlighting the benefits of cooperation, the cooperative collection turned to the collective collection. These values have enlightening effects on the practice of library information development in China:strengthening the strategic support role of library information resources construction, pursuing the win-win concept of more accurate and more collaborative, and highlighting the efficiency orientation of data empowerment.
