Abstract

[Purpose/Significance] Scientific collaboration diversity is an emerging research subject under the topic of "team science" in scientometrics. Different from the previous linear perspectives, scientific collaboration diversity (co-authorship diversity) is a multi-dimensional and systematic perspective that helps to understand the structure, nature and value of scientific collaboration. [Method/Process] This paper reviews the exsiting literature related to scientific collaboration diversity in scientometrics. Firstly, this paper systematically sorts out different types of scientific collaboration diversity and concept demestions of each type. Secondly, this paper reviews the ten types of scientific collaboration diversity under the four macro-categories, which defined by this paper, in terms of their concept demesions, measuring method, and utility types. Finally, this paper summarizes the existing research of scientific collaboration diversity and makes prospects for future research. [Result/Conclusion] Results show that the existing liearture is more focused on the bibliometric-attributes-based collaboration diversity, while less foused on the individual and discipinlary attributes based collaboration diversity. Most related researches only use part of the connotation of the ecological diversity conceptual framework. Generally, the measurement methods used in existing related research are more based on the traditional method while less based on the new method which takes into the similarity dimension into accout. The utility types in existing related research are relatively limited. The future research needs to focus on the non-bibliometric-attributes-based collaboration diversity, introducing or detecting new measuring methods based on the complete concept of diversity, and expanding more types of utility, especially strengthening the cause study in utility research.
