[Purpose/significance] Transforming the old buildings into new libraries is a space remodeling model of the library using the old building's scale and foundation, and transforming the old building into the urban cultural center, learning center, and communication center. This model has a certain enlightenment significance for the construction mode of new library in our country. [Method/process] This paper adopted the case study method and network research method, selected 18 successful cases of old buildings transformed into libraries at home and abroad from IFLA's New Libraries in Old Buildings-Creative Reuse, the ArchDaily website, and the official website of each library and the architect firm, to analyze the basic situation of the case, the types of old buildings before renovation, and the general characteristics, the value of the new library after renovation and the construction method, and focused on the analysis of four featured cases:The Suochengli Neighbourhood Library, Marrickville Library, LocHal Library, and the Montserrat Abelló library. [Result/conclusion] Based on this, the proposal for the transformation of old buildings into libraries in China is put forward:Concise the evaluation plan for the renovation of the old building space, clarify the regional and cultural functions of the new library, meet the diverse spatial and emotional needs of readers, and follow and publicize the concept of sustainable development construction.
