[Purpose/Significance] This study aims to address two research questions:First, have digital divides narrowed down in the approximately ten years of time span? Second, are there any significant changes to the mechanisms of digital divides across the almost ten years? [Method/Process] To study the cross-temporal changes in the digital divide based on questionnaire data collected through solid fieldwork in 2012 and 2020. [Result/Conclusion] This paper finds that the gaps in digital divides, including three dimensions of access, use and Internet activities, have narrowed in China, and the related formation mechanisms of the three dimensions show some diachronic changes. These findings further confirm that the gap of my country's digital divide is shrinking. The relevant conclusions of this study not only help to understand the distribution of the digital divide in my country, but also help policy makers to formulate targeted digital governance guidelines based on the formation mechanism of the digital divide by analyzing the time changes of the formation mechanism of the digital divide.
