Abstract

[Purpose/Significance] To explore the generation factors of social media users’ health information avoidance behaviors and their internal mechanism under the risk perception perspective, in order to provide scientific guidance for improving the quality of social media health information services and users’ health management decisions. [Method/Process] Based on the stimulus-response-organism (S-O-R) theory and the risk information seeking and processing (RISP) model, the study analyzed the perceptual process and influencing elements of social media users’ health information avoidance behaviors in the risk perception domain, and constructed a generation mechanism model of social media users’ health information avoidance behaviors from four stages: attention elicitation, situation perception, emotion fermentation, and awareness control. [Result/Conclusion] This paper explains the logical connection between the generation elements of social media users’ health information avoidance behaviors from the risk perception perspective, reveals the internal relationship between the elements and the mechanism of each stage, and proposes a strategy for social media users’ health information avoidance behavior management.
