Abstract

[Purpose/Significance] This paper explores the influencing factors of music browsing behavior of mobile users through eye movement experiments. This research can help mobile users improve their browsing efficiency, and provide a theoretical basis for music app designers to optimize the design and service of browsability. [Method/Process] The study chose context and domain knowledge as two main factors and studied their impacts of domain knowledge level on music information browsing behaviors in different situations. In the eye movement experiments, participants with musical learning experiences were divided into high-rating and low-rating groups representing high-level and low-level domain knowledge. In the experiments, they were requested to browse the music information based on the Netease cloud music app according to the assigned task requirements. The eye movement data of browsing was analyzed statistically. [Results/Conclusion] The results showed that in the interest-driven context, there is no significant difference in browsing behavior between the high-rating and low-rating users. In contrast, in the task-driven context, there is a significant difference in the browsing behavior between the two groups. Our findings indicate that users’ domain knowledge level does not affect their browsing behavior in the interest-driven context. In the task-driven context, users with a high domain knowledge level can quickly acquire target information through browsing.
