[Purpose/significance] This paper reviews the book History and Development of Information Science in China, aiming to make readers understand the evolution process, development stages and development laws of information science in China.[Method/Process] Using the methods of content analysis, induction and deduction, this paper evaluates the main characteristics of the book from the writing background, overall content and main highlights.[Result/Conclusion] Based on the systematic and abundant historical data, the book refines the essence of the development of information science in China, and adopts the new way of thinking to describe the evolution of information science. It is the first domestic academic book to study the history of information science in China, and makes up for a gap that information science lacks historical research works in China. It will create certain conditions for the rapid development of information science theory, method, technology and practice in China during the 14th Five-Year Plan period, and provide research materials and analysis basis for future information science researchers.
