[Purpose/Significance] At present, the construction and evaluation of academic journals in philosophy and social science in China are developing well, but there are still some problems to be strengthened, improved or even corrected. It is important to accelerate its construction, which is conducive to the development and academic prosperity of journals. [Method/Process] This paper analyzed the evaluation system of the four major philosophy and social science journals in China. On this basis, it put forward the construction principles and directions of that evaluation system. Finally, the paper took the journal evaluation system of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences as an example, and discussed the practice innovation of journal evaluation. [Result/Conclusion] It finds that the evaluation system of philosophy and social science journals in China still needs to be strengthened in three aspects. In the construction, it should consider two principles and five directions. Although China’s journal evaluation practice has made certain progress in the index system, classification mechanism, peer review expert team, peer review methods, and other aspects, the evaluation and supervision mechanism still needs to be improved.
