Abstract

[Purpose/Significance] Issues such as health rumors and misinformation overload, as well as the resulting health information anxiety and avoidance behaviors, hinder the improvement of citizens' health literacy and the development of public health information services. The study aim to facilitate the development of high-quality online health information resources and contribute to the enhancement of residents' psychological well-being by thoroughly exploring the factors and pathways that influence the health information avoidance behavior. [Method/Process] Using the grounded theory approach, 83 initial concepts, 15 basic categories, and 6 main categories were extracted by coding and analyzing the interview data, and the Cognition-Affect-Conation (CAC) framework was integrated to construct a theoretical model. [Result/Conclusion] The findings demonstrate that there is a reciprocal interactions between health information anxiety and avoidance behaviors. Cognitive factors indirectly influence health information avoidance behaviors by affecting the level of health information anxiety experienced by individuals. Moreover, environmental factors, individual factors and information factors are found to have causal, mediating, and moderating effects on health information avoidance behaviors.
