Think Tank Advisory Report: Type Selection, Topic Selection Strategy and Acquisition Path

Abstract

[Purpose/Significance] Systematically exploring and summarizing the think-tank research principles and constructing an independent knowledge system are an important part of the new type of think-tank with Chinese characteristics. It is of great significance to deeply analyze the principles of topic selection and establish the criterion of topic selection for the think tank research. [Method/Process] Based on the paradigm of “middle-range theory”, the paper analyzed the successful practice of think-tank advisory service in China, and summarized the report type selection, topic selection strategy and topic acquisition path of the new-type think tank advisory report with Chinese characteristics, and supplemented a functional module of the think tank system in China. [Result/Conclusion] The type selection of the think tank advisory report mainly focuses on the matrix of 9 major categories and 36 subcategories. The topic selection can adopt 12 strategies, and the topic acquisition can follow 5 main paths and 26 branch paths. The integration of report type selection, topic selection strategy, and acquisition path represents the direction, content and carrier of precise topic selection in think tank research. It constitutes a prerequisite for the advisory and administrative support of high-level think tank and serves as an important part of the research technology system and toolbox of the new-type think tank with Chinese characteristics.
