Research on the Driving Path of User Knowledge Contribution Behavior on Open Innovation Platforms

Abstract

[Purpose/Significance] This article studies the combined effects of factors influencing knowledge contribution behavior on open innovation platforms. By distinguishing the driving paths of knowledge contribution behavior between professional and non-professional users, it aims to provide theoretical support for promoting user innovation on open innovation platform. [Method/Process] Based on self-determination theory and social identity theory, this study used questionnaire survey data and fuzzy set qualitative comparative analysis method to explore the configuration that led to user knowledge contribution behavior. [Result/Conclusion] It is found that self-efficacy, community identity, self-presentation motivation, user’s sense of power, collectivism, and peer influence are not necessary conditions to influence user knowledge contribution behavior. The common core condition for achieving high-level knowledge contribution behavior among users is collectivism. The three effective configurations of non-professional user knowledge contribution behavior are: platform environment-led collective contribution type, individual display-led platform collective-driven type, and self-presentation orientated-platform collective enhancement type. The two effective configurations for professional user knowledge contribution behavior are platform collective-driven type and efficient-collective-driven type.
