[Purpose/Significance] Artificial intelligence (AI) is at the core of a new wave of technological revolution and industrial transformation. To ensure that students remain competitive in the AI era, cultivating AI literacy among university students has become an important component of talent development in higher education’s AI innovation action plan. This paper aims to analyze the current state of AI literacy education research both domestically and internationally, exploring the service practices of libraries in top American universities regarding AI literacy education. The goal is to provide insights and references for the systematic and in-depth development of AI literacy education in China’s higher education. [Method/Process] This study investigated the top 30 universities in the 2024 U.S. News & World Report Best National University Rankings, delving into the service practices of their libraries in the realm of AI literacy education. [Result/Conclusion] The research indicates that many university libraries have integrated AI literacy education into their service systems. It provides LibGuides and conducts a variety of AI literacy training activities, including knowledge-based, practical, and interest-based programs. These initiatives introduce relevant theoretical frameworks of AI literacy and incorporate them into strategic planning, effectively enhancing students’ understanding and application of AI technologies. These service practices offer significant insights for China to actively construct an AI theoretical framework and resource service systems that aligns with national conditions, establish a comprehensive AI literacy education and training system, and promote the development of mechanisms to support AI literacy education.
