Abstract

[Purpose/Significance] The construction of systems and tools for the long-term preservation of digital resources has become an important strategic initiative of relevant institutions in various countries. To comprehensively track and analyze their updates and developments is not only helpful to further understand and deepen the theoretical and practical experience of that, but also an important foundation for promoting the sustainable development and continuous innovation of preservation in China. [Method/Process] Through the tracking and literature research of 49 international institutions in the field of long-term preservation, this study summarized the preservation system, tools and related technical standards, norms, and guidelines for 2022-2023, explored and analyzed the focus and hotspots of current research. [Result/Conclusion] Based on the content of the tracking research, the study conducts a thematic classification analysis of research topics, combined with the application of preservation systems, tools, and standards at the practical level. From three perspectives, preservation standards and guidelines, preservation systems and tools, and emerging technologies such as blockchain and artificial intelligence, the study summarizes the current development and trends in long-term preservation. At present, the international research emphasizes the preservation of cultural heritage and new types of data, with preservation technologies tending toward greater intelligence and automation. The increasing application of emerging technologies has introduced new solutions and methods for long-term preservation.
