Abstract

[Purpose/Significance] This study aims to construct a vivid and intuitive information horizon map by systematically analyzing user interactions with health misinformation within the social media. The objective is to gain a deeper understanding of the current landscape of health misinformation on major domestic social media platforms and to propose targeted strategies for health information governance. [Method/Process] This study employed the information horizon map, critical incident technique, and semi-structured interviews to collect and analyze user cognition and behavior data. This study examined various health misinformation types, roles, and interactions by representing the information map through a matrix. Finally, by conducting a textual analysis of the interview data, the study systematically constructed a map framework for health misinformation. [Result/Conclusion] Different social media platforms favor different health misinformation themes and types. Xiaohongshu and WeChat are platforms where health misinformation is more concentrated, with the top ten themes being health-related diets, health supplements, disease information, and more. Based on the flow characteristics of information, social media platforms can be divided into recommendation-type, balance-type, and output-type nodes, revealing the flow and radiative influence of health misinformation across different platforms. Future governance of health misinformation on social media platforms should fully consider the content and group preferences, as well as the dissemination and flow characteristics of each platform, to conduct targeted research and governance practices, thereby more effectively addressing the challenges posed by health misinformation.
