[Purpose/Significance] Special collection loan exhibitions in libraries can promote collection visibility, and facilitate cultural dissemination and inheritance. Establishing a loan exhibition system for special collections is crucial to ensuring the security and the sustainable use of collection. [Method/Process] Through literature research, 25 original special collection loan policies/guidelines from U.S. institutions were collected. Textual content analysis was employed to summarize the policy framework of American library loan programs, identifying three core components: initiation of loan requests, loan agreement execution, and internal assessment procedures. [Result/Conclusion] U.S. special collection loan policies are applicable to Chinese library policy development. They offer implications in three aspects, i.e, macro-level conceptual frameworks, micro-level policy formulation and implementation safeguards, and operational-level conservation standards.
