Abstract

[Purpose/Significance] In an era of data abundance, storytelling practices for intangible cultural heritage still rely on the oral accounts from inheritors and audio-visual recordings. This dependency often leads to potential deficiencies in the credibility and scientific validity of the content. In order to solve this problem, this study constructs a data storytelling model for intangible cultural heritage, aiming to facilitate the transition of intangible cultural heritage storytelling from experiential narration to evidence-based storytelling. [Method/ Process] Through a literature review, this article first analyzes the intrinsic theoretical connection between evidence-based thinking and data storytelling, clarifying the core elements and operational logic of the model. On this basis, a four-layer structural model is proposed, including evidence synthesis, story modeling, narrative generation, and feedback interaction. Furthermore, the model isempirically validated using data from 204 questionnaires. [Result/Conclusion] Taking Jingdezhen’ s traditional porcelain craftsmanship as a case study, the four hierarchical layers of the proposed model were systematically examined and empirically validated. The results demonstrate that the constructed model demonstrates high practical feasibility. This study offers a valuable structural framework for the research on data storytelling of intangible cultural heritage. [Innovation/Value] This study introduces the evidence-based approach to the field of intangible cultural heritage research, offering a new perspective on promoting the dissemination of intangible cultural heritage through data storytelling and its cultural transmission. Additionally, the study constructs an intangible cultural heritage hierarchical structure of evidence and a GRADE evidence grading framework tailored to the humanities context, providing methodological guidance for evaluating the credibility of evidence in the field of digital humanities. Finally, this study proposes a model for the storytelling of intangible cultural heritage data from an evidence-based perspective, offering a framework to support research in this field. [Insufficient/Improvement] At the theoretical level, existing data storytelling models are primarily tailored to intangible cultural heritage studies, how to develop a more comprehensive and generalizable pathway for data storytelling across diverse research objects remains an open question. At the practical level, the implementation of such models is still constrained by the availability of high-quality data and a strong dependence on intelligent technologies. In the future, relevant research could further integrate feedback data from a large audience to dynamically optimize story models using intelligent technologies such as multi-agent systems. Ultimately, this will lead to the development of a more intelligent, interactive, and sustainable framework for data storytelling in the context of intangible cultural heritage.
