Thematic Structure, Knowledge Domains and Evolutionary Development of Information Disclosure for Public Organizations in China

Abstract

[Purpose/Significant] The study reveals thematic structure, knowledge domains and evolutionary development of research in Chinese public organization information disclosure. The results contribute to reveal the structure and characteristics of information disclosure and provide insights for subsequent related studies. [Method/ Process] We collected 3972 studies on public organization information disclosure published in CSSCI (including extended edition) journals, employing the BERTopic model for thematic mining and synthesis of abstract texts from the studies. Time-series data analysis was integrated to examine evolutionary structural features. [Result/Conclusion] The result reveals 31 fine-grained topics, which can be further clustered into 9 knowledge domains. From a developmental perspective, the research on public organization information disclosure has progressed through three phases: “Eastward Spreading of Western Learning”, institutional system construction, and quality enhancement. This trajectory reflects the responsiveness and deepening exploration of pertinent issues over time. Broadening the scope to encompass “public organizations”, the study systematically examines the practical activities and mechanism construction of this filed. Furthermore, adopting a broader perspective, the study analyzes the intricate system of information disclosure involving multiple subjects, offering insights for the establishment of a more comprehensive and three-dimensional institutional mechanism of information disclosure, as well as a directional reference for the development of future related researches.
